Dual Synergistic Effects of MgO-GO Fillers on Degradation Behavior, Biocompatibility and Antibacterial Activities of Chitosan Coated Mg Alloy
The aim of this work was to establish and characterize chitosan/graphene oxide- magnesium oxide (CS/GO-MgO) nanocomposite coatings on biodegradable magnesium-zinc-cerium (Mg-Zn-Ce) alloy. The deep coating method was used to coat the magnesium base implant.
The results showed that this synergy not only leads to better corrosion resistance, but also composite coating escalated cell viability and cell differentiation, according to cytocompatibility tests due to the presence of GO and MgO within the CS.
Another promising result of this research was the antibacterial properties of the samples after this coating. In fact, the mentioned composite coating leads to improvement of corrosion, antibacterial, bioactivity and biocompatibility properties for magnesium-based alloys implants.
